Summary

Everyone has heard of proteins and DNA, but how easy is it to analyze a sample? Come explore the application of advanced biotechnology that can be implemented in the high school classroom during a class period. Using specific tools, students can run a DNA or protein gel electrophoresis unit and obtain results for analysis. These biotechniques have applications to the National and State Science Standards in Science and Technology. This program will also share information about a NSF-funded program called TRIAD, in which a graduate student scientist is partnered with a biotechnology company and a high school classroom for a year. We will provide ideas for hands-on experiential opportunities to viewers on a subject that impacts our future.
